• an ear-splitting sound[c]: extremely loud
• take someone's breath away: astonish or inspire someone with awed respect or delight.
• breakingneck: carelessly fast and dangerous, e.g.They were riding along at breakneck speed/at a breakneck pace.
• spellbound: a. so impressed by something that you do not pay attention to anything else

 

(2) A cable network called CTN, which built its reputation on hard hitting exclusive often exposing the embarrassment of celebrities and politicians rather than seemingly mundane stories, made its reputation on scoops, in particular, with the election just around the corner, it portrayed Park as a simian who was involved in monky business.
